Why you should not use gutter guards

What are gutter guards? Well, the simple explanation is they are a metal, plastic, or aluminum mesh product that is either screwed, clipped, or placed over your rain gutters. They are designed to prevent leaves, pine needles, and other debris from getting into your gutter and clogging your gutter and downspouts. What we at Surface Pro have discovered is that they really just create twice the mess and twice the upkeep. This is because they gutter still gets clogged with smaller particles like dirt, roof granules, and pine needles, and the guard becomes clogged with leaves and other debris. (See picture below)

The only real efficient way to have clear gutters and downspouts is to clean them out in the spring, and the fall. While the premise of gutter guards and gutter covers seems like a good idea, the reality is they are simply inefficient and ineffective. In our opinion the value is not there when it comes to gutter guards.
